Current problems of the Hungarian medical language in the beginning of the new millennium

Written by Brassai Zoltán, Brassai Attila

The authors overlook the factors which make the problem actual (the explosion of the available information, supraspecialization, pressure from the English language). They analyse the situation of the Hungarian language (45th from 6000 languages worldwide), the specificity of its structure compared with Indo-european languages and the historic evolution of the Hungarian medical language. The authors also overlook the different segments of the Hungarian language (common, literal and professional) and the history of their relations. They analyze the problems of synonyms, eponyms, current medical expressions and the difficulties regarding the correct use of the Hungarian medical language (especially the correct use of the foreign language expressions). Finally the authors point to the expected lines of development of the Hungarian medical language.
