Ferenc Nyulas’s survey upon pharmacies

Written by Péter H. Mária

The 250th anniversary of Ferenc Nyulas’s birth provides a good opportunity to mention one of his less well-known activities, i.e. the survey and control of pharmacies. From the point of view of pharmaceutical history, his guidebook entitled Instructio pro Apothecariis is of remarkable importance. The same applies to his Generalis apothecarum visitatio rigurosa, issued in December 1807, which contained his observations related to the control he had made in 42 Transylvanian pharmacies. This study presents the previous regulations of pharmacy control, the places which were subject to Nyulas’ control, his instructions and observations, as well as several noteworthy conclusions.
